Five Keene State Students Will Play in New England Band

KEENE, N.H. 3/7/06 - Five Keene State College students have been awarded coveted spots in the 2006 New England Intercollegiate Band.

They will be among 55 musicians from 17 colleges and universities throughout New England performing at the annual New England Intercollegiate Band Festival on Friday and Saturday, March 31 and April 1, at Gordon College in Wenham, Mass. This year’s conductor will be Mark Scatterday of the Eastman School of Music. The concert in the Gordon Memorial Chapel will be shared with the U.S. Air Force Liberty Wind Ensemble, with Major Larry Lang conducting. The concert will be open to the public and tickets will be available at the door.

On the basis of their taped auditions, the following Keene State students were named members of the 2006 New England Intercollegiate Band:

Tyler Reed of Mystic, Conn., was chosen to play trumpet. He is a junior music education major. A graduate of Fitch High School, he is the son of William A. and Pauline Reed.

Nathan Shower of Merrimack was selected to play trumpet. He is a junior majoring in computer science, and performs in the KSC Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Trumpet Ensemble. A graduate of Wolcott High School, he is the son of Vicky and Larry Shower.

Heidi Slaney of Wolcott, Conn., was chosen to play clarinet. She is a senior majoring in music education, and is a member of the KSC campus chapter of the Music Educators National Conference. A graduate of Wolcott High School, she is the daughter of Jeanne Thomas and Fred Slaney.

Heather Topolski of Gardner, Mass., was selected to play piccolo. A senior music education major, she has served as vice president of the KSC collegiate chapter of Music Educators National Conference. A graduate of Gardner High School, she is the daughter of Paul and Janet Topolski.

Emilie Zucker of Brattleboro, Vt., was chosen to play flute. She is a sophomore majoring in music performance. A graduate of Litchfield High School in Connecticut, she is the daughter of Gloria Snow and Richard Zucker.
