Registration Opens for April Courses at Region I OSHA Education Center

KEENE, N.H. 3/2/06 - Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, Manchester, N.H., is accepting registrations for 12 April courses. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State College’s Office of Continuing Education.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (500) qualifies students to become authorized OSHA 10- and 30-hour construction outreach trainers. Bidding contractors and construction workers often must possess a minimum of an OSHA 10-hour Construction Outreach card. Prerequisites to becoming an Outreach Trainer include having five years’ experience in construction safety, a 30-hour OSHA Construction Outreach card, or equivalent. The course is scheduled for April 10-14 in Fairfield, Maine.

Upon completion of the Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (501), students may become authorized to conduct OSHA 10- and 30-hour General Industry Outreach courses. Prerequisites include five years’ general industry safety experience, OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach card, or equivalent. This course, in Fairfield, Maine, runs April 24-28.

Attending an Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers (502) is required once every four years in order for OSHA Construction Outreach Trainers to retain outreach trainer status. The course runs twice in April: April 5-7 in Wellesley, Mass., and April 10-12 in Providence, R.I.

Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (510) covers OSHA’s construction safety and health standards, focusing on recognizing and addressing hazards. Upon completion, students receive an OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach Training card, a prerequisite for OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry. The course runs April 17-21 in Montpelier, Vt.

Students of Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (511) receive an overview of OSHA’s general industry safety and standards, hazard recognition, and various methods for eliminating or reducing workplace hazards. Upon completion, students receive an OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach training card, a prerequisite for the OSHA #501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry. This course is scheduled for April 3-7, 2006 in Groton, Conn.

General Industry Outreach Trainers must attend Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers (503) once every four years; the course runs April 12-14 in Providence, R.I.

Public Warehousing and Storage (7005) focuses on aspects of warehouse operations, including powered industrial trucks; material handling/lifting/ergonomics; hazard communication; walking and working surfaces; exit routes and fire protection. The April 4 program is held in Manchester, N.H

Evacuation and Emergency Planning (7105) examines OSHA requirements for emergency action and fire protection plans. Participants learn: (1) reasons for emergency action and fire prevention plans and when they are required; (2) elements of a good evacuation plan; and (3) features of design and maintenance of good exit routes. An optional session focuses on assessing risk for terrorist attacks and how to use OSHA’s two matrices, evacuation planning & fire and explosion, in planning. The one-day course runs April 4 in Manchester, N.H.

Blood-borne Pathogens Exposure Control for Health Care Facilities (7200) discusses blood-borne pathogens standard; exposure control plans; exposure determination; methods of control; vaccinations and evaluations; training and information; and record keeping. The April 5 course is held in Manchester, N.H.

Introduction to OSHA’s Permit-Required Confined-Space Standard (7300) discusses requirements of OSHA’s Permit-Required Confined-Space Standard, 29 CFR 1910.146. The course on April 27 is in Manchester, N.H.

Introduction to Accident Investigation (7505) introduces basic accident investigation procedures, describing accident analysis techniques. Running April 6-7, the course is held in Manchester, N.H.

Disaster Site Worker Course (7600) discusses demolition and construction hazards that may be encountered at a natural or manmade disaster site. This course is specifically designed to prepare demolition and construction workers to work safely in a disaster site. The April 26-27 course is taught in Lowell, Mass.

Tuition for OSHA courses 500, 501, 510, and 511 is $725/person.

Tuition for OSHA courses 7005, 7105, 7200, and 7300 is $195/person.

Tuition for 7505 is $390/person; and for 502 and 503, $615/person.

Group discounts for five or more students to attend one course are available, as is on-site training for groups of at least 10 or more participants.
