Registration Opens for Region I OSHA Courses

KEENE, N.H. 1/12/06 - Region I (New England) OSHA Training Institute Education Center, Manchester, N.H., is accepting registrations for nine March courses. The Institute is authorized by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Keene State College’s Office of Continuing Education.

Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (510) covers OSHA’s construction safety and health standards, focusing on recognizing and addressing hazards. Upon completion, students receive an OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach Training card, a prerequisite for OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry. Two March courses are planned: March 13-17 in Manchester, N.H., and March 20-24 in Providence, R.I.

Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (500) qualifies students to become authorized OSHA 10- and 30-hour construction outreach trainers. Bidding contractors and construction workers often must possess a minimum of an OSHA 10-hour Construction Outreach card. Prerequisites to becoming an Outreach Trainer include having five years’ experience in construction safety, a 30-hour OSHA Construction Outreach card, or equivalent. The course is scheduled for March 20-24 in Manchester, N.H.

Attending an Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers (502) is required once every four years in order for OSHA Construction Outreach Trainers to retain outreach trainer status. Scheduled for March 27-29, the course is in Manchester, N.H.

Students of Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (511) receive an overview of OSHA’s general industry safety and standards, hazard recognition, and various methods for eliminating or reducing workplace hazards. Upon completion, students receive an OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach training card, a prerequisite for the OSHA #501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry. This course is scheduled for March 13-17 in Manchester, N.H.

Upon completion of the Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry (501), students may become authorized to conduct OSHA 10- and 30-hour General Industry Outreach courses. Prerequisites include five years’ general industry safety experience, OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach card, or equivalent. This course, in Manchester, N.H., runs March 20-24.

General Industry Outreach Trainers must attend Update for General Industry Outreach Trainers (503) once every four years; the course runs March 29-31, in Manchester, N.H.

Excavation, Trenching, and Soil Mechanics (3010) provides a comprehensive overview of soil mechanics, sloping and types of shoring. Various soil testing methods are demonstrated as students participate in a variety of hands-on activities and attend a one-day field exercise. This dynamic course is offered March 6-9 in Manchester, N.H.

Introduction to Machinery and Machine Safeguarding (7100) is a one-day seminar focusing on OSHA’s standards pertaining to Machine Guarding and Lockout/Tagout Programs, hazard recognition, and methods for safeguarding machinery. This one-day seminar is scheduled for March 28 in Manchester, N.H.

Introduction to Safety and Health Management (7500), a one-day seminar, teaches students how to create more effective safety committee and workplace safety and health programs. The four main elements of an effective safety and health management system - (1) management leadership and employee involvement; (2) worksite analysis; (3) hazard prevention and control; and (4) safety and health training - are covered. Various small group activities and workshops encourage active learning. This March 6 seminar is in Manchester, N.H.

Tuitions for OSHA Courses #510, #500, #511, #501, and #3010 are $725/person. Tuitions for OSHA Courses #502 and #503 are $615/person. Tuition for one-day seminars is $195/person. Group discounts for five or more students to attend one course are available, as is on-site training for groups of at least 10 or more participants.
