Women in Science: Dr. Rachel Thiet – Ecology in the Anthropocene: How Embracing the Underdogs Will Help to Save the World

Putnam Science Center - 101
Thursday, · -

Despite what we now know about the critical ecological roles of plants and invertebrates, conservation science is still largely focused on charismatic megafauna. To turn the tide of biodiversity loss and extreme climate change, scientists, teachers, and citizens will have to embrace solutions that show deep understanding of and appreciation for lesser-known organisms, many of which are invisible to the naked eye. In this talk, soil ecologist Dr. Rachel Thiet will discuss what decades of research about plants and soil invertebrates have taught us about ecology, climate change, and how to save the world. Thursday, March 22, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Putnam Science Center at Keene State College (Room 101). Co-sponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education and Keene State College.
