A Brief History of AIDS Activism and the Future of HIV Care & Prevention

Young Student Center - Room 309
Tuesday, · -

This interactive presentation explores the origins of the American HIV epidemic and ongoing efforts to combat it. In observance of World AIDS Day, we will pay homage to early AIDS activists by acknowledging their fierce advocacy. Their goals of expanding treatment and research while combatting stigma and public indifference have both evolved and held constant over the last 35 years. In the era of highly effective treatment and new prevention options such as PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), we will renew our commitment to learning the latest and sharing these developments with our communities. This talk is geared to all students, staff, and faculty with interests in social justice, LGBTQ+ health, and public health.

Speaker: Jake Perlson is an MD Candidate at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. He is the founder of Granite State PrEP Connect, a statewide education and access program around HIV prevention and care.
