Open Pedagogy Learning Community: Claim Your Domain - The Nuts and Bolts of DoOO and WordPress

Huntress 12
Friday, · -

The Open Pedagogy Learning Community is a group of interested faculty who meet regularly to read about, discuss, and practice the principles of open pedagogy. An open pedagogical approach emphasizes collaboration and community, and encourages students to participate in their learning with an audience that goes beyond just their professor, their classroom, and their institution. In doing so, it changes the way students think about and take ownership of their learning, fostering an environment for students to become creators, not just consumers of knowledge. We will share ideas and experiences, discuss the philosophy of ‘Open’, wrestle with the problems and challenges it presents, and read about what others around the world are doing to transform student learning using open pedagogy. Please contact Karen Cangialosi if you are interested in joining us.

In this session we will delve into the details about one of the major tools for Open Pedagogy, the use of student-owned web domain spaces for teaching and learning. Our KSCopen, Domain of One’s Own (DoOO) project emphasizes digital identity, digital fluency and digital citizenship. We will get into the weeds of using Wordpress and C-panel operation for managing domains and sub-domains. If you are interested in getting involved in this project, there are a couple of things to do in advance: 1) fill out the KSCopen.org account request form 2) think of a name for your web domain.

This event is part of the Faculty Enrichment Events calendar.
