Webinar: Engaging Students with Integrated Inquiry in Science and Social Studies

Zoom
Tuesday, · -

Free STEM webinar, part of our Educator Preparation Fall Faculty Webinar Series.

Get a brief overview of the inquiry and engineering models supported in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the College, Career, and Civic Life Social Studies Framework (C3). Practice creating a unit outline with others teaching the same grade level. You'll work with a real-life issue connected to both science and social studies standards. We'll talk about how to implement this in a remote setting as well.

Audience: K-5 science and social studies teachers

Dr. Heather Pelkey, Ed.D has been an adjunct faculty in the Elementary Education Methods program at Keene State College for six years. She is also a sixth grade teacher at Winchester School, where she has been teaching for the past 20 years. Her passion is in STEM education and developing a love of reading in all students. Heather recently completed her doctorate at the American College of Education; her dissertation focused on how engineering encourages students to be more interested in science in grades K-8. She has also been trained in the new C3 social studies framework where engineering is a large component.
