SSH Seminar: A New Superpower? The New Silk Road and China’s Rising International Influence
Presented by Dr. Sasha Davis: Over the past ten years, the rivalry between the US and China has become a central focus of international politics and US foreign policy. This competition plays out in many different ways: from trade wars and military posturing to diplomatic maneuvering and the exchange of heated political rhetoric. This talk will focus on one particular aspect of this rivalry: China’s multi-trillion-dollar infrastructure initiative to link Europe, Asia, and Africa (called the “New Silk Road” or “Belt Road Initiative”) and the challenge it presents to the global military, economic, and diplomatic dominance the US has enjoyed since the end of the second World War.
