SSH Seminar Series: Zambia’s School Re-entry Policy for Adolescent Mothers
Presented by Dr. Margaret Henning: Policies aimed at students who become pregnant vary widely in sub-Saharan Africa. The persistently high rate of adolescent pregnancy, particularly among poor girls and in rural areas, is one of the reasons that universal secondary school completion remains elusive in Zambia. In this collaborative research project with Dr. Henning in Public Health at Keene State College, Stephanie Simmons Zuilkowski from Florida State University, and Joseph Zulu from the University of Zambia, funded by the Spencer Foundation, researchers explored Zambia’s re-entry policy and young mothers’ experiences beyond re-enrollment in school.
