"Project Nighthawk" Volunteer Training

Putnam Science Center - 101
Tuesday, · -

Nighthawks were once common in cities throughout New Hampshire, where they nested on gravel roofs and fed on insects attracted to city lights. In recent years, these acrobatic birds have disappeared from many New Hampshire towns, but they still nest in Keene -- including, sometimes, on the KSC campus. In efforts to protect this charismatic and endangered species, the Harris Center and New Hampshire Audubon coordinates volunteer nighthawk monitoring on summer evenings in Keene.

To become a Project Nighthawk volunteer -- or simply to learn more about these captivating urban birds -- join us for a training on Tuesday, May 29, from 7 to 8:45 p.m. at the Putnam Science Center at Keene State College (Room 101). We’ll begin indoors, then venture outside to look and listen for nighthawks in the twilight sky. For more information, please contact Brett Amy Thelen at (603) 358-2065 or thelen@harriscenter.org.

This event is cosponsored by the Harris Center for Conservation Education, New Hampshire Audubon, and Keene State College.
