Keene State College is rolling out acceptance letters and students across the country are eagerly anticipating making their decision about which college to enroll at this fall. The best way to see if a college is a good fit is to visit, which is why Keene State hosts a series of Admitted Student Days each spring. Accepted students and their families are invited to campus to explore what the college has to offer and experience a day in the life of a Keene State Owl.

At the first Admitted Student Day on Saturday, March 7, Mayor George Hansel welcomed 228 students and their families to the city of Keene. He described Keene as a college town that creates a network of support and opportunity for students. Director of Admissions Peggy Richmond excitedly greeted students from the Class of 2024 before introducing President Melinda Treadwell, who spoke about the many ways Keene State prepares its students for a lifetime of opportunities through classroom and real-world experiences.

Will Carson of West Hartford, CT, said, “My favorite part of the day was the morning introduction. It feels very welcoming. Everyone is very accepting and you can really see the spirit of Keene State.”

Following a panel of students, where the audience was invited to ask questions, visitors toured the first-year residence halls and spoke with Resident Directors about living on a college campus. Lunch at the Zorn Dining Commons was a highlight and guests sampled a wide variety of meal options, including vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free dishes.

“We just came from lunch, which was really yummy,” said Izzy Paquette of Southampton, MA. “I’m excited to go to the Major Fair. I’m considering film studies. It’s not offered many places, so that drew me to Keene State.”

Visitors chose their destinations in the afternoon, splitting time between the Owl Information Fair to learn about student support services such as orientation and housing, the Major Fair to speak with professors and students in 40+ areas of study, and Mini-Courses, short class-style presentations by professors.

“Everyone is very talkative and open to answering your questions,” added Chole Edwards of Groton, CT. “I like that the college is in a community like Keene. It’s not too far away from home.”

Zach Clayton of Longmeadow, MA, officially enrolled by paying his deposit. “I came for a last look at the college and got a really good vibe. Everyone here is so nice. Hearing about the support that’s available was really helpful,” said the future sustainable product design and innovation major.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, all upcoming Admitted Student Days are going virtual. Admitted students can learn more about this online experience and register for an online session here.
