Are you an artist within a 40-mile radius from Keene?

Artists working within 40 miles of Keene, New Hampshire, are invited to participate in the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery’s 2017 Biennial Regional Juror’s Choice Exhibition.

The 2017 juror is Alexandra Foradas, Assistant Curator at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts. Foradas’ recent exhibitions at MassMOCA include 2015’s Bibliothecaphilia and this year’s Jenny Holzer. Foradas recently juried inDIVISIBLE at the Eclipse Mill in North Adams.

The 2017 Regional will open with a public reception and juror’s award announcement for the artists on Friday, June 2, 7–9 p.m., organized by the Thorne to coincide with the annual Keene Art Walk. The Thorne will schedule a juror’s walk-through and several informal artist talks on dates to be determined during the exhibition. The Public Choice Award will be presented to the winning artist at a closing party on Saturday, Sept. 2, organized by the Thorne to coincide with the 2017 Keene Music Festival.

Details

Artists working in all media are invited to make one submission of up to six works completed after 2014 for consideration. Proposals for new works (intended for gallery or for outdoor/community locations) will also be considered. The juror may choose to select all or some of the works submitted by each artist (but series or sets will not be broken up). Works must be ready to install unless otherwise specified. The gallery will endeavor to assist artists with complicated technology, media, or installation requirements (resources are limited; informal consultations are welcome).

Work for consideration must be submitted via our online submission form.

Every artist’s submission must include a mailing address, phone and email contacts, and a brief biography or list of exhibitions. For each work submitted for consideration, artists must include an image, title, date completed, material/media, dimensions, insurance value, and – if not submitted by the artist – the lender/owner’s name.

Each artist’s submission (including up to six works) must be accompanied by a fee of $30, as a check/money order payable to Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery, mailed prior to May 1st, to

Timeline

The submission deadline is 4 p.m., Monday, May 1, 2017. The fee and all information/images must be received in order for the artist’s work to be reviewed. No exceptions. No refunds.

  • Accepted artists will be notified of the juror’s decisions by May 8.
  • All submitting artists will receive invitations to the June 2 opening reception.
  • Accepted artists may deliver works between May 15–19.
  • The exhibition opens at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 2, and closes at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3.
  • Artists may pick up their work between Sept. 6–9.

The gallery will put interested buyers in direct contact with artists and requests that any artist selling a work from the exhibition (or within 2 months) make a tax-deductible donation to the gallery equal to ¼ of the value of the sale.
