Raiders of the Lost Ark POSTPONED DUE TO RAIN UNTIL SAT. JULY 16.

Saturday -

Raiders of the Lost Ark opens the Redfern Arts Center’s “Classics on the Quad” family films shown outdoors on the Keene State College Quad off Main Street and Appian Way in Keene. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit before the big screen.

Steven Spielberg’s first Indiana Jones adventure Raiders of the Lost Ark stars Harrison Ford as the swash-buckling archeologist Indiana Jones. When we first see Indy, he is somewhere in the Peruvian jungle in 1936, running a booby-trapped gauntlet to fetch a solid-gold idol. He loses this artifact to his chief rival, a French archeologist named Belloq (Paul Freeman), who then prepares to kill our hero. In the first of many serial-like escapes, Indy eludes Belloq by hopping into a convenient plane that’s crawling with snakes. The next time we see Jones, he’s a bespectacled professor, summoned from his ivy-covered environs by Marcus Brody (Denholm Elliott) to find the long-lost Ark of the Covenant coveted by the Nazis. But to find the Ark, Indy must secure a medallion kept under the protection of Indy’s old friend, whose daughter, Marion (Karen Allen), evidently has a “history” with Jones. Whatever their personal differences, Indy and Marion become partners in one action-packed adventure after another. Raiders of the Lost Ark is rated PG.
