José Lezcano: Five Centuries of Spanish Guitar

In this program, Dr. José Lezcano, Professor of Music, performs music written either for the guitar or one of its precursors, the vihuela, through five centuries. Prof. Lezcano performs Renaissance, Classical, Romantic and 20th century music on a modern classical guitar, and provides commentary that contextualize the guitar as an instrument that reflects the main currents of Spain’s turbulent history. Dr. Lezcano will collaborate on some selections with Dr. Patricia Pedroza, Chair of Women’s Studies, and with KSC alumnus Heather O’Connor, soprano.
