Thomas Durnford joined the faculty of Keene State College during the 1974-75 academic year as instructor in French and Latin. From 1979 to 1981, he was director of the Council on International Educational Exchange Undergraduate Language Program at the Université de Haute Bretagne - Rennes 2.

He was director of International Education at Keene State College from 1986 to 1991. He has been the recipient of several awards and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the governments of France and Québec.

He recently received a grant from the Ministry of International Relations of the Québec government and will be attending a three-week seminar at the Université de Montréal which focuses on Québec culture, economics and history. His main focus of teaching is oral communication, phonetics and conversation in French.

Graduate studies at the Unviersité de Haute Normandie - Rouen, 1969-71.
