Influences of Folk Music in American Art

This presentation examines influences of folk music in American art music by analyzing two prominent works written by Jewish American composers in the twentieth century: Aaron Copland’s work for orchestra, Danzon Cubano and George Gershwin’s African- American Opera, Porgy and Bess, concluding with the presenter singing Summertime from Gershwin’s Opera.

The Role of the Celtic Harp in Traditional Music

This performance demonstration will focus on the historical overview of the Celtic Harp and its role in traditional Irish and Scottish music. Musical examples will be discussed and demonstrated on the harp. This presentation will educate a widespread audience on a unique instrument and traditional music that all can enjoy.
