Practicum: Teaching-Secondary

This course is held on-site at the local high schools. Candidates are involved daily for one public school period at the placement site. Each candidate is assigned a cooperating teacher.

Students have the opportunity to plan and teach one unit of instruction. In addition, students teach and assist in the general warm-up as assigned by the cooperating teacher. All students are given the opportunity to observe throughout the semester.

Supervision is a shared responsibility between the cooperating teacher and the college supervisor (course instructor).

The cooperating teacher supervises all teaching and assisting experiences. The college supervisor visits most of the days when the candidate has teaching responsibilities. Candidates receive daily feedback from their cooperating teacher, when teaching. Candidates meet with the college supervisor in seminar once a week (on KSC campus), and individually on site to conference with students.
