Theatre and Social Issues

In this course we will explore how to use the language oftheatre to help people engage in critical reflection of theirlives, and the society in which they live. Applied Theatre,Community-Based Theatre, and Theatre for Development areumbrella terms used to define theatre conducted innon-traditional theatrical spaces for the purpose of "helpingthe audience, or the participants, grapple with an issue, eventor question of immediate public and personal concern". We willsurvey a number of theatrical forms and actively examine thepolitics and practices associated with the use of thesetechniques in various settings.
