Women and War

What does wartime mean for women? What social roles are womenexpected to play in times of war? What rights do women gain andlose during a conflict? How do women writers define war onlocal, national, international, and ideological levels? In thiscourse, we will analyze women's creative output from around theworld. Rather than an exhaustive survey of war literature, thiscourse seeks to introduce an array of global responses toconflict. These texts challenge the boundaries between thebattlefront and the home front, demonstrating how women might beboth victims and agents of change during times of socialupheaval and strife. x-listed with IHWGS-399-01
