Independent Cinema

This class will investigate how independent films have alwaysbeen important to the film industry and film audiences. We willlook at representative examples of historically importantindependent films from the past and present. We will investigateindie production houses, producers, directors and personalities,like Miramax Films, disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein, A24studios, the Blaxploitation movement, New Queer Cinema, producerTed Hope, and directors like Wes Anderson, Jim Jarmusch, MaryHarron, George Romero and Kimberly Pierce.
