Memoir/Personal Narrative

Intensive study of writing techniques and applications in specialized areas of creative, nonfiction, or professional writing, as well as writing that does not easily fit into these categories. May be repeated once as topics change. Prerequisites: ITW 101 and one 200-level English, Film, Communication, or Journalism course. Annually.

Comments: This section of English 308 focuses on memoir. You will writeseveral chapters of a memoir essay collection or full-lengthmemoir. We will read several contemporary memoirs and you willwrite a book proposal and query letter for which you will beinvestigating places to submit your manuscripts (you are notrequired to send it out for publication, but I will prepare youto do so.) This course is a workshop, so expect that all studentswill read each other's work and offer extensive feedback.
