The conventional wisdom about young people and politics is this:Young people in America hate politics. They are alienated by whatthey see as a mean-spirited and dysfunctional political systemand are absolutely uninterested in political news or engaging inpolitical discussion. This class will investigate thatconventional wisdom and explore the literature about young peopleand politics in America and elsewhere, now and in the past. Thisis a class designed to come at or near the close of a student'sundergraduate study. It has been conceived as an opportunity torefine a set of disciplinary skills and a chance to have a highlevel focus on a particular area of content. The skills arethree: writing, presentation, and reading that is within thediscipline and that leads to demonstrable comprehension andunderstanding of an author's purpose.
