The Vietnam War Era

Introduces students to skills and ways of thinking essential to intellectual inquiry. Students will pose a creative and complex question; investigate it with critical analyses of reading, research, and data; and use appropriate research techniques and documentation to produce a substantial writing project.

Comments: This course will provide students with a deeper understanding ofthe Vietnam War through a variety of perspectives. Students willexamine the war through novels, poetry, letters, songs, and film.In addition, they will increase their awareness of thehistorical, political, and social ramifications of the events inthe war and explore the relationship these events have to theartistic depictions. Students will be required to write shortreflective papers and one sustained longer paper, presentfindings on different aspects of the 1960s era, and criticallyview literature, news, music, and film.
