Genocide Awareness and Prevention

April is New Hampshire Genocide Awareness Month. Cities and towns throughout the state are urged by the governor and the NH Legislature to observe this month in an appropriate manner educating the public about the evils of genocide and commemorating victims of genocide. The Cohen Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Keene State announce the first annual student video contest.

2016 April Video Contest Theme: Giving a Face to the Targets of Genocide

Genocide is not a problem for victims only. Genocide is a group crime that unfolds over time. It begins when a group is targeted, singled out, classified and dehumanized. As a human phenomenon, it is a problem and warning for us all. It is important to remember the targets of genocide and give a voice to those who have no voice and help save those who need saving. This year’s video contest asks you to give a face to the targets of genocide. Using one or more genocides from history, your goal is to humanize the targets to allow us to see groups as human beings and challenge prejudice.
