Guidelines

The Student Center was built to support student life and activity on the Keene State College campus. Given all things equal, the opportunity for student involvement and activities will take precedent over all other college and non-college events. The Student Center policies and procedures were developed in order to honor these priorities.

Procedures pertaining to the operation of the Student Center and the hours of operation are established by Student Center management in consultation with the Student Center Advisory Council. The Student Center Advisory Council consists of representatives from student organizations currently occupying office space in the Student Center as well as representatives of the offices and services housed in the Student Center.

Regularly scheduled academic classes will not be held in the Student Center except those classes arranged for in consultation with the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Academic departments may schedule the use of the Student Center facilities for special academic programs.

Reserved space is not to be used in excess of the maximum capacity specified for the space.

Fire regulations require that all aisles leading to exit doors must be clear and unobstructed. All activities in the Student Center are subject to the City of Keene Fire Code. Detailed information is available from the Student Center Scheduling Office.

College regulations prohibit dogs, cats and other pets and animals from the premises of the Student Center, with the exception of those specially trained to assist the disabled.

In accordance with college policy as detailed in the Student Handbook, the use of skateboards and in-line skates is prohibited in the building and on the pedestrian ramps adjacent to the building. Cycles of any sort are not permitted in the building. Ball playing, juggling and other activities of the sort are prohibited in all public spaces within the Student Center.

The Student Center is a smoke-free building.

The Director of Student Life may deny any and all Student Center privileges to any individual or group in the event of violation of Student Center policies or procedures.

Posting of Printed Materials, Hanging of Banners, Easel Space and Table Tents
Printed material may be posted only on designated bulletin boards within the Student Center. Nothing may be posted on any other surface. All materials must conform with the Posting Policy as outlined in the Student Handbook. Any violations of this policy will result in sanctions for the person or organization responsible for the posting to disciplinary action and/or fines.

The hanging of banners is permitted in the Student Center. Banner and easel spaces are available for reservation by student organizations, on-campus offices and departments and organizations by filling out a Banner/Easel/Table Tent Request Form available at the Information Desk. A group may reserve one space for one week (7 continuous days) and may request and be granted an additional week if space is available.

Tables tents must be of high quality and must be approved by the Assistant Director for Operations of the Student Center prior to placement. The table tents are allowed to remain in place for up to seven consecutive days. After which the sponsoring group is responsible for their collection. Table tents not collected will be discarded.

Table Exhibits, Displays, Sales and Distribution of Materials
Tables are available for use in designated public spaces in the Student Center and adjacent outdoor space by on-campus and external organizations. Tables may be reserved through the Student Center Scheduling Office. All persons using tables must adhere to the tabling regulations found in the Student Handbook and remain within the area designated.

Table spaces are available at no charge to on-campus offices and student organizations for up to 5 consecutive days per week. Additional dates may be granted if space if available. External organizations such as vendors may reserve table/vendor space for a maximum of 2 days a month and will be charged in accordance with the Student Center fee schedule.

The event sponsor or vendor is responsible for compliance with all laws and regulations of the City of Keene and the State of New Hampshire regarding all items sold.

All material distributed within the Student Center or at adjacent public space must meet the standards specified in the Student Handbook. No alcoholic beverages or tobacco products may be distributed in any common area within or adjacent to the Student Center.

Vendors may contract for the use of specific spaces within the Student Center for a maximum of two days per month. Vendors granted space will be treated as guests of the college and are expected to adhere to all applicable college and Student Center policies and procedures. Failure to comply with any policy may result in forfeiture of all fees paid and/or loss of reservation privileges.

Facility Usage
Meeting facilities are available at no cost for college events using rooms with standard setups. A separate fee structure applies to non-college events.

Please consult the Keene State College Scheduling Policy for definition of "Internal" and "External" groups.

All facility use fees for external groups must be paid prior to the event. If fees are not received, the event may be subject to cancellation.
