Community Service Clubs & Programs
The Community Service Office is located in the third floor office suite of the Young Student Center. The college's Coordinator of Community Service Mary McEntee, serves as a link between the college community and the community service organizations in the Monadnock Region. As a member of Campus Compact, Keene State is committed to assisting students to develop the values and skills of citizenship through participation in community service.
As an institution dedicated to service, we would love to hear about what you are doing. In order to highlight the important contributions that students are making, we are asking all students to submit their volunteer service hours to the Community Service Office. In order to participate in our campus wide commitment to service, please complete the registration form once. Use the service log to record the hours you spend doing unpaid community service. Turn in the service log to the Community Service Office once per month. Students who log 50 hours or more by the end of the academic year will be recognized for their efforts!
- The Community Service Fellows program is coordinated through the office to match students with job opportunities at local social service agencies.
- Keene State Reads is affiliated with America Reads; this program provides student tutors who assist with reading and math skill development to pre school - 3rd grade students in the Monadnock Region. Several student organizations are affiliated with the Community Service Office including the following:
- Big Brothers Big Sisters The Big's Club consists of volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Some are enrolled, some are not. Some are matched, some are waiting. Either way, we share an interest in working and helping the children in our communities. The campus chapter advocates for mentorship, to raise awareness of children in need of a positive role model in the community, to raise awareness of the efforts and impacts Big Brothers Big Sisters has in the community and ultimately to raise recruitment of volunteers. Be a part of something BIG!
- Circle K is a student organization affiliated with Kiwanis who promote volunteerism on campus through service projects and fund raising. The organization provides educational programming related to service and advocacy.
- First Book is an international non profit whose mission is to provide children from low income families the opportunity to read and own their first new book. First Book advisory boards select community tutoring, mentoring and literacy programs serving children from low income families and work to support these programs through book grants and special events.
- Habitat for Humanity campus chapter is a student organization with three main functions: building and rehabilitating houses in partnership with Habitat affiliates and homeowners; educating the campus and community about affordable housing issues and raising funds to support the work of Habitat for Humanity locally, nationally and internationally.
