Welcome
On behalf of the faculty and staff here at Keene State, I send greetings and our thanks for your interest in our college. We hope this book will intrigue you, give you a sense of our beautiful campus and vibrant programs, and convince you to come for a visit.
Keene State is a college on the move, and I think you will sense that when you come to campus. As we approach our centennial in 2009, the sense of mission is strong. We celebrate our identity as a public liberal arts college that has strong professional programs, including teacher education, and a challenging new Honors Program. We are excited about our new curriculum based on four-credit courses and integrative studies, offering depth and balance in all majors. There is room for exploration and intellectual excitement. At the same time, we offer enriching personal experiences, rewarding student-professor collaboration, and ample opportunity for service projects and social growth.
We know that a true education engages the whole person. As a community, we value diversity, community service, intellectual rigor, and creativity, and our students are known for their community involvement as well as their academic accomplishments.
We look forward to seeing you on campus and answering your questions about Keene State College.
Sincerely,
Helen F. Giles-Gee
President
Undergraduate education is our mission.
As New Hampshire’s foremost public liberal
arts college, Keene State celebrates its centennial in
2009 as a dynamic institution that challenges students
to develop the habits of mind and character
that prepare them for productive lives and work. Our
academic program encompasses nearly 40 majors in
the liberal arts and sciences as well as professional
programs and selected graduate degrees.
Keene State draws on strong academic programs,
faculty scholars, and a tradition of small classes and
spirited inquiry. Rich and varied cocurricular experiences
move the classroom into the community and
the world, making the College motto, “Enter to learn;
go forth to serve,” a touchstone in the lives of students
and alumni. Students who walk down Appian
Way, the campus thoroughfare, find civility, diversity,
and collegiality.
Please visit to get the flavor of collegiate life. We
invite you to accept our promise of lifelong friendships,
