Here to Help
College work should be a challenge, but sometimes students need help in finding the best ways to meet that challenge. To help guide you through the decisions you'll make during your college career, Keene State has a network of support based on the belief that every student's goals and desires are unique.

The Elliot Center for Student Services houses everything from the Admissions Office, Student Financial Services, and the Registrar's Office to Health Services and the Counseling Center.

Academic and Career Advising staff invite first-year students and their parents to contact them whenever they have academic questions or concerns. They help students explore opportunities, develop realistic goals, and plan their academic programs. They offer assistance in:

  • clarifying goals
  • registering for classes
  • declaring a major
  • developing a résumé
  • transferring college credits from other institutions
  • planning internships, service learning, or volunteer experiences
  • exploring part-time or summer employment
  • seeking support when in academic difficulty
  • investigating graduate school or post-graduation employment

The Career Resource Library, part of Academic and Career Advising, is devoted exclusively to helping students find internships and summer jobs. The CRL lists positions with hundreds of companies in Keene, across the United States, and internationally.

Students who have selected an educational goal or declared a major are advised by a faculty member from their department. Faculty advisors help with program requirements, long-range planning, career opportunities, and professional recommendations. At KSC we know that a good relationship between a student and faculty advisor can make the academic experience especially productive.

The Aspire Program provides tutoring and Supplemental Instruction for selected courses. Through SI, trained students who have done well in a class take the class again and hold out-of-class study sessions for any students who want assistance. In addition, Aspire serves students with disabilities, first-generation students, and low-income students with a focus on educational planning, including advising, counseling, study skills training, and career planning.

The Office of Disability Services is where KSC students with documented disabilities arrange the accommodations and academic services that enable equal access to campus programs, such as alternative testing, note taking, texts on tape, accessible living, and classroom adjustments.

Across campus, at the Center for Writing and the Math Center, students with expertise in writing and math are available for tutoring sessions and one-on-one counseling. Make an appointment or drop in.

I recommend KSC because: If you have the drive and motivation to accomplish something during your time here, you can do it. The faculty and staff are very open-minded. Keene State has truly been the best experience of my life.
