Keene State, the top NCAA Division III public intercollegiate institution in last year's NACDA Cup standings, sponsors a comprehensive 18-sport intercollegiate athletics program. The Owls compete in the Little East Confer-ence (LEC) and are Division III members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Col-lege Athletic Conference (ECAC).

In 2007-08, Keene State produced two national track champions, 11 All-Americans, and 74 All-New England Region and 104 All-Little East student athletes. KSC was represented in nine NCAA championships, with the women's in-door and outdoor track teams finishing fourth in the country. The Owl women's swim team captured the NEISDA title and had its first swimmer qualify for NCAA competition. KSC also sent four teams to their respective ECAC tourna-ments. Keene State played in five LEC championship games, winning the field hockey and baseball crowns and bringing home women's cross country and swimming and men's indoor track meet titles. The Owls have won eight consecutive Commissioner's Trophies, emblematic of the top program in the conference.

Keene State athletes approach their studies with the same enthusiasm they display on the field. Over the years, mem-bers of the Owl field hockey, cross country/track and field, women's softball, swimming and diving, and lacrosse teams have earned national academic honors. In 2007-08, 90 student athletes were named to the LEC All-Academic team. KSC also has the distinction of having 162 student athletes with a GPA over 3.0 - more than 43 percent of the total group of participants in the varsity program. In addition, 12 teams have GPAs of 2.9 or higher.

Supportive coaches will not only help varsity athletes build first-rate athletic skills, but they also take an active role in help-ing them balance the pressure of academic life with the demands of the athletic season.

An early president of Keene Normal School had, "A girl in every sport, and a sport for every girl," as one of his mottos. Today, students who are interested in athletics will find dozens of possible outlets, including varsity sports, club sports, and recreational sports.
Keene State players celebrate a goal against California-Dominguez Hills in the 1989 NCAA Division II National Women's Soccer Tournament. The Owls advanced to the champion round of the tournament four straight years (1988-91).

  • What I like about my major:
  • Activities: Track and Field.
  • I picked KSC because: KSC Track and Field has a great reputation and it's a beautiful location.
  • I would recommend KSC because: Keene State has done great things for me athletically and personally. I work with a very sup-port group of people on the track and field team. Also It's easy to get involved in activites on campus and I haven't found a pro-fessor here who I didn't like.
  • KSC has changed me in this way: Coach Peter Thomas and my teammates have been a big help in getting me to where I am today.
