Keene State has been ranked the top New England public Division III institution in the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' NACDA Cup for seven of the past nine years. In 2007, KSC received its highest NACDA ranking ever at 19th out of 420 Division III schools, putting it into the top five percent nationally. Keene State sent eight teams to NCAA tournaments, fielded 144 All-Little East Conference players, won eight All-America awards in five sports, and took home the Little East Commissioner's Cup for the seventh consecutive year. The Commissioner's Cup measures an institution's overall performance in the 19 sports it sponsors.
"Our goal," said athletic director John Ratliff, "is to become one of the top Division III programs in the country. The rankings demonstrate our commitment to that goal."
Keene State athletes approach their studies with the same enthusiasm they display on the field. In 2006-07, athletic teams averaged a GPA of 2.88, just above that of the overall student body, and three teams (women's swimming and diving, field hockey, and women's softball) earned a cumulative grade point above 3.0. The field hockey team won a national award for academic achievement from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Supportive coaches not only help varsity athletes build first-rate athletic skills, but they also take an active role in helping them balance the pressure of academic life with the demands of the athletic season.

I wrote my application essay about: Running, and how it helped me grow throughout high school. The better I got at the sport, the better I did in school.
