Key to the success of the gallery is the support of the community-based Friends of the Thorne. The volunteer group hosts receptions, staffs the information desk, and leads a highly successful school program. Volunteers for FACTS, Famous Artists Come To School, study an individual artist and visit area classrooms to make presentations. Sixty-five volunteers have reached more than 5,000 students at 17 schools with this program.
New members to the Friends of the Thorne are always welcome. Members receive invitations to all
exhibits, newsletters, and discounts on Friends-sponsored museum trips and lectures. Above all,
Friends support the appreciation of the visual arts in the community
