December 9, 2007Artwork and memorabilia by nationally known 19th-century artists of the Dublin Art Colony in New Hampshire highlight the artistic and social milieu that surrounded this creative community. Notable artists from the colony include Gifford Beal, Frank Weston Benson, Barry Faulkner, Alexander James, Rockwell Kent, William Preston Phelps, Joseph Lindon Smith, Edmund C. Tarbell, and Abbott H. Thayer.

In Residence: Artists & the MacDowell Colony Experience

October 14, 2007In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the MacDowell Colony, the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery at Keene State College and The Art Gallery at the University of New Hampshire co-organized this invitational exhibition featuring works in various media by nine New England visual artists who have been in residence at the MacDowell Colony.
Selected artists for this exhibit include Rosemarie Bernardi from Keene, N.H.; Tom Chapin from Phippsburg, Maine; Jim Coates from Lyndeborough, N.H.; Roberta Delaney, from Sherborn, Mass.; Grant Drumheller, New Castle, N.H.; Beth Galston, Carlisle, Mass.; Olivia Parker, Manchester, Mass.; Susan Schwalb, Watertown, Mass.; and Judith Stone, from Burlington, Vt.
Film Screening and Reception: Tuesday, September 4, 7 p.m., screening of Seasons of MacDowell, four short films by MacDowell Fellows at the Putnam Arts Lecture Hall, Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond, followed by a reception, hosted by Friends of the Thorne, at the Thorne Gallery.

Illusionary Space and Other New Encounters

July 29, 2007Contemporary art from the 1960s to the 1990s that plays with and examines space and spatial relationships culled from the Thorne Gallery and Keene State College collections. This exhibit premières works by Tony DeBlasi, Jack Lembeck, and Theodoros Stamos, all gifts to the college from the Louis K. Meisel Gallery in New York City, and a sculpture by Blanche Dombeck donated by Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene. Other artworks from the gallery and college collections also are displayed.
