Annual Gift Scholarships
Annual gift scholarships are made possible by donors interested in supporting Keene State College students and recognizing their particular interests and abilities. Persons or organizations interested in establishing such scholarships may contact the Office of Development at 603-358-2372.
AAUW Annual Undergraduate Diversity Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2005 by the Keene Chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to provide scholarship aid to an undergraduate student with a preference for, but not restricted to, female students of color. This award is based on financial need, merit and recipients must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 and be enrolled full time in courses of Keene State College for the fall semester.
American Association of University Women, Elsa P. Ware Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1987 by the Keene Chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to provide scholarship aid to graduate students. This award is based on financial need, and preference will be given to students who have been out of college for a number of years and who are age 24 or above.
Ann Britt Waling Women's Studies Recognition Award
The fund was established to honor Dr. Ann Britt Waling, former Dean of Professional and Graduate Studies and faculty member, who left the College after 29 years of service. Consideration will be given to women who are of junior or senior standing, currently enrolled in or has completed WS 301, a minimum of 3.0 GPA and has demonstrated commitment to feminist activism on campus or in the community.
Alice S. Ayling Fund
Keene State College is the only New Hampshire institution chosen to participate in the Ayling Scholars Program. The Alice S. Ayling Foundation was established by bequest in 1988 to provide financial assistance to deserving men and women who would not otherwise be able to pursue a college education. Recipients must be New Hampshire residents with demonstrated financial need. They are expected to realize their academic potential and to involve themselves in significant ways in their community, on or off campus. The scholarships are renewable for a maximum of four years upon recommendation of the College's faculty liaison officer. In a given year, there are ten to twenty Ayling Scholars on campus.
Robin Dizard American Studies Award
the "Robin Dizard American Studies Award." This award recognizes the vibrant and significant contributions to the American Studies Program by Professor Robin Dizard. The purpose of this award shall be to bring attention to the American Studies Program and to provide recognition to an outstanding American Studies Major. Consideration for this award shall be given to full-time matriculated students with junior or senior status who are majoring in American Studies who have achieved at least a 3.5 GPA. The award is not renewable to the same student. Demonstrated need is not a selection criterion. Nominations will be made by Core Faculty in American Studies. The nominator(s) will write a letter of support. Nominated students will be asked to submit to the Selection Committee (the Core Faculty in American Studies) one of their papers/essays, written in an upper-level American Studies course, or any course that has been part of their American Studies program. The letter of support and paper/essay will be submitted for consideration by the Selection Committee who will select the recipient of the award.
Fred Fosher Excellence in Writing Award
This Award recognizes annually a student who has shown excellence in writing. Through a generous gift by Bruce LeVine Mellion ('69)and Linda Zucker Mellion, the award honors the work of Professor Emeritus of English, Fred Fosher, whose masterful teaching promoted the value of clear, purposeful, and persuasive writing from 1967-1992 at Keene State College. The award recognizes the critical role that writing plays across the curriculum, and the inspired work of students who rise to the formidable intellectual challenge of writing clear, purposeful, and persuasive prose. Applicants must be full-time matriculated students with junior or senior status and will submit a portfolio, which will be judged by a faculty committee of at least five members.
Governor's Success Program
In 1988, a State initiative created scholarship assistance for full-time undergraduate students who are New Hampshire residents and have completed their freshman year. Awards are made on the basis of merit and/or need. The program is authorized each year by the New Hampshire Governor and Executive Council, subject to the availability of funds from the State and the ability of the receiving institution to raise matching funds from private donors.
John Michael Delehanty Arts Scholarship
The John Michael Delehanty Arts Scholarship was created by Carolyn Delehanty to remember and celebrate the life of her son, John Michael Delehanty. John Michael was a kind and caring person, who always made time for others. He had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed skateboarding, snowboarding and art; as well as spending time with good friends and family. The purpose of this award shall be to provide financial support to a deserving Arts Major to assist in paying for art supplies and textbooks. Consideration shall be given to KSC students majoring in art who demonstrate financial need as well as a commitment to community service.
Kiwanis Club of Keene Circle K Scholarship
Consideration will be given to students who have completed their freshman year, have a minimum of 2.5 GPA, display outstanding citizenship and are actively involved in Circle-K activities at Keene State College for at least one year
Keene State College Parents Association Annual (Grant) Scholarship
This grant provides financial support to Keene State College students in good standing, with clearly demonstrated need as determined by Student Financial Services, that cannot be met by some other grant or loan source. Several grants are available and are not to exceed $750 per student, per semester. Special consideration will be given to those students who have experienced an unexpected change in their personal or family financial situation.
Agnes M. Lindsay Trust Scholarship
The Agnes M. Lindsay Trust was established in 1938 by the will of the late Agnes M. Lindsay of Bridgewater, N.H. Agnes M. Lindsay Scholarships at Keene State College support full-time students who present a case for financial assistance and who are from rural (fewer than 15,000 inhabitants) Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, or Vermont. Scholarships are available to entering and continuing students in all areas of study. Recipients are selected by the Keene State College Scholarship Committee.
Emerson and Ruth McCourt Annual Scholarship
This annual scholarship will provide tuition assistance for KSC students. To be eligible, students must be a resident of New Hampshire and have completed at least 50% of the coursework required to attain their diploma, associate or bachelors degree. Priority will be given to students majoring in Mechanical, Electrical, and Nursing programs; students majoring in Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry will also be considered.
Doug Nelson Outstanding Concert Band Member Award
This annual award was established in 2006 in honor of Doug Nelson's retirement. Doug had been with Keene State College for 35 years. In the 25 years that the Redfern Art Center has been open, over 350,000 people have attended performances, art exhibits, taken classes, view films, created works of arts etc. Doug was responsible for bringing many of those people to the Art Center. His dedication to the creative process and his commitment to excellence in teaching have been intrumental in making the Redfern a vibrant home for the arts on campus and in the region. This award will be given each spring to a concert band member selected by a ballot of his or her fellow musicians.
F. Burton Nelson Holocaust Studies Memorial Award
This award recognizes annually a student who has demonstrated a commitment to Holocaust Studies. Through a generous gift Paul and Nancy Vincent, the award honors the late F. Burton Nelson, Professor of Theology at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago. In 1965, while completing his dissertation on "The Ecumenical Movement and the Problem of World Peace," Nelson enrolled in a doctoral seminar and was asked to select a contemporary ethicist for a research paper. As chance had it, he selected Dietrich Bonhoeffer; Bonhoeffer, a German theologian murdered by the Nazis, became Nelson's theological companion for the remainder of his life.
Recipients of this award shall be nominated by the members of the Holocaust Studies Council and selected by a committee of at least three Holocaust Studies faculty. Consideration for this award shall be given to an outstanding sophomore or junior at Keene State College, full or part time, with a major or minor in Holocaust studies. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required and the student must be able to attend the annual Spring Honors Convocation to accept the award.
Charles Irwin Travelli Fund
Keene State College is the only New Hampshire institution chosen to participate in the Travelli Scholars Program. The Charles Irwin Travelli Fund was established in 1913 by Mrs. Travelli in honor of her late husband to provide financial assistance for deserving men and women who would not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue a college education. Recipients must be New Hampshire residents with demonstrated financial need. They are expected to show academic potential, display good citizenship and participate in extracurricular activities. The scholarships are renewable for a maximum of four years upon recommendation of the College's faculty liaison officer.
Women's Educational Opportunity Grant
This scholarship is intended for women whose educational goals are intended to improve their opportunities for career advancement, with resultant improved economic self-sufficiency. All candidates must meet two qualifications: demonstrated financial need and declared intent to pursue a program of studies which has the potential of enhancing the candidate's employability, earning power, career mobility or potential for career advancement. This program of studies need not lead to a college degree. Preference will be given to women who are working, single heads of households.
