Science Center Construction Update

The Courtyard Rocks
Even as the last of the rubble from the demolished lecture halls was cleared away, the first of four boulders destined for the new courtyard of the Science Center was delivered. The boulders, which range in weight from about 20,000 to 105,000 lbs., will replicate the geological landscape of New Hampshire. The boulders were found by Dean Gordon Leversee on a hillside in Swanzey, N.H. The largest crane in the area, operated by Keene Tree and capable of lifting 90 tons, was used to position the boulders in the courtyard space. The boudlers should be in place by Wednesday, June 4.

The largest boulder, at 50 tons, was too much for the crane to lift, so a new crane, twice as big as the Keene Tree Services vehicle, was brought in to complete the job.
