Transcripts

Request a Transcript

Official vs. Unofficial Transcripts

A transcript is a record of all credit courses for which the student has registered. An official transcript bears the college seal and the signature of the registrar and are printed on security paper. Un official transcripts are marked "unofficial" but contain all course information. Current students can access unofficial transcript information by using their MyKSC account.

Transcripts sent to the student are marked "Issued to Student" and are frequently not accepted by other institutions, scholarship committees, the military, etc. Students may request an official transcript be issued in a sealed envelope, but this must be clearly communicated in the student's written request.

Many institutions require the transcript be sent directly to them. In this case the student must supply the name and address, including zip code, to which the transcript is to be sent.

The difference between an Official and an Unofficial Transcript is how the information is packaged and delivered. An official transcript bears the signature of the registrar and the college seal. Students who have attended since 1989 and who have electronic academic records will have official transcripts printed on security paper.

Unofficial transcripts are marked "Unofficial Transcript" and printed on white paper. Some organizations requesting official transcripts will accept them from students only if they are in a sealed envelope. Please be sure to specify in your written request if you need the transcript(s) in a sealed envelope. Many institutions require transcripts be sent to them directly from the previous college.

Some employers will accept unofficial transcripts. These are also good when students are self-advising or mapping out what courses they need to complete a degree.

Advising Tools

Transcripts are documentation of all the courses a student has taken at Keene State College and credits transferred to KSC from other institutions. This information helps to inform students and advisors when trying to choose courses and plan for the timely completion of degree requirements.

Transfer Students

Transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities are required by the Admissions Office and should be sent to them as part of your application. Upon acceptance to KSC these transcripts will be evaluated and credits applied to KSC programs per college policies.

KSC students seeking advice on choosing a program away from KSC may find an unofficial transcript helpful as a reference. Once an institution has been chosen, you will need to request an official transcript from our Registrar's Office to be sent to that institution's admissions office.

Employers

Transcripts are used by employers to verify degree information and better understand a candidate's qualifications. If a transcript is requested, it is important to find out if they want an official or unofficial transcript.

Graduate Schools

Graduate Schools need official transcripts. Some want them sent directly from the former institution. Others require that they be included in the student's application package. In the latter case the student needs to request that the transcript be sent to him/her in a sealed envelope which is sent unopened with the application.

Requesting a Transcript

To obtain a transcript students must make the request in writing. Federal law states that the student's signature is required to release a transcript.

In the letter we will need:

  • Student Identification number or Social Security
  • Last year of attendance
  • Full name currently and at the time of attendance
  • Birth date
  • The complete address of the destination
  • Student's signature

Official transcripts cost $2.00 each. There is no charge for an unofficial transcript. There is a limit of 1 unofficial transcript per request. Students can make as many copies as they need of that one unofficial transcript.

Official transcripts can be sent to any location for which the student supplies the address. If the student wants the transcript sent to him/herself it will be sent in a sealed envelope with the Registrar's signature across the flap.

There is a form on the KSC web page that can be printed, filled out, signed and sent to the Registrar's Office. The link for that form is: http://www.keene.edu/registrar/forms/transcriptrequest.pdf

We will accept a faxed request for an unofficial transcript ONLY. We do NOT fax transcripts. Therefore, the fax needs all the information stated above including the complete address of the destination. The fax number is (603)358-2460.

Send the request:

Registrar's Office
Keene State College
229 Main St.
Keene, NH 03435-2607

If you have other questions, please call 603-358-2316.
