Program Overview
Intramural Sports
The Intramural Sports Program at Keene State is one of the most popular programs on campus- with nearly 2,300 total participants each year. We offer close to 25 team and individual sports, including dodgeball, flag football, softball, basketball, indoor and outdoor soccer, volleyball, floor hockey, wiffleball, tennis, racquetball, badminton, and other special events. All events are open to men and women and to full-time and part-time matriculated students and Recreation Center members. You can sign up for team and individual intramural sports at the front desk of the Recreation Center. See the Intramural Sports section on the web for more information and refer to the Intramural Sports Calendar for important intramural dates and deadlines. Watch for flyers and announcements on My KSC throughout the year.
Sport Clubs
Students who want a more organized team sport atmosphere may find what they're after in a sport club. Rec Sports works closely with each club regarding its goals, travel, safety, and responsible leadership and behavior. Clubs are formed by students and are either competitive or instructional. Approved clubs use the facilities of KSC and have College advisors and, in some cases, volunteer coaches. Students interested in a particular sport not offered as a Rec Sports program can work with the professional staff to start a new sport club. Rec Sports will assist students in meeting the criteria of a student organization required by the Student Activities Office. Current active clubs include men's & women's rugby and fencing.
Group Fitness Classes
Improve your college experience by staying in shape! Recreational Sports offers classes in muscle blast, cardio kickboxing, yoga, core training, fitness/toning, hydrorobics and many others, all taught by instructors who are certified by a nationally recognized certifying agency. Registration for aerobics and fitness classes takes place at the front desk in the lobby of the Recreation Center at the start of each semester. Participants attending any of the group fitness classes are required to wear a clean pair of aerobic shoes that have not been worn outside the studio. Because facility space is limited, classes are open only to Recreation Center, Walking Track/Aerobics members and students. Aerobic fitness instructor certification workshops are offered in the fall and spring, usually with discounted rates for individuals affiliated with Keene State College. Information is available in the Rec Sports Office. Schedule.
Informal Recreation
Informal recreational activities include lap/recreational swimming, open gym time for pickup basketball and volleyball games, and racquetball. Tennis, basketball and sand volleyball are played on our fine outdoor courts, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pool hours are posted on the Recreational Sports hotline, 358-2589, or can be picked up at the front desk of the Recreation Center.
