Shining a Light on Poverty: The Effects of Poverty on Teaching and Learning and What Can Be Done to Reverse this National Tragedy

"Shining a Light on Poverty" will be filmed pro bono by documentary filmmakers Ann Tweedy and Robbie Leppzer. Paul Richmond, a noted artist from Wendell, Mass. will be directing the filming. Paul is the managing director of the LOFT Foundation and is currently leading a collaborative effort to expand KSC's streaming video capacity for the purpose of enhancing educational opportunities beyond KSC's immediate geographical region. The conference was planned by a volunteer staff of three KSC students, two KSC instructors, and Paul Richmond.



Friday, April 7
3:30 - 6:30 p.m. Registration
6:30 p.m. Welcome and introductions
6:45 p.m. Opening Demonstration
7:15 p.m. Keynote address by Rob Fried, author of The Passionate Teacher, and The Game of School: Why we all play it, how it hurts, and what it will take to change it
8 - 9:30 p.m. Facilitated Roundtable Discussions with Diane Fukuda

Saturday, April 8
8 a.m. Coffee, tea, bagels, and yogurt (sponsored by BagelWorks and Stonyfield Farm)
8:30 a.m. Keynote address by Michelle Kennedy, author of Without a Net: Middle Class and Homeless (with Kids) in America: My Story
9:30 a.m. Roundtables, workshops, and seminars (roundtables are small, informal, and 45 mins long; workshops are 1ΒΌ hours; and seminars roughly two hours.)
Noon Lunch
1:15 p.m. Keynote address by David Sutherland, PBS Filmmaker who created the recent PBS Series Country Boys.
2 - 4:30 p.m. Roundtables, workshops, and seminars
