Dr. Beverly Ferrucci, professor of mathematics, received the Alumni Association's 2010 Distinguished Teacher Award during New Student Convocation on August 26.

She has been a driving force for excellence in training mathematics teachers at Keene State for over 20 years and is internationally renowned in the field of mathematics education.

She has authored several publications, some of which have been translated into different languages, and presented and lectured in many countries. She was the first female editor of the New England Journal of Mathematics and the first American, and the first woman, to be invited to speak at the Southeast Asian Conference on Mathematics Education.

In 2004, she received the Keene State College Award for Faculty Distinction in Research and Scholarship, and she received the Outstanding Women of New Hampshire Award in 2003. In 1998 the New Hampshire Teachers of Mathematics presented her with the Richard Balomenos Memorial Award.

A beloved and dedicated professor, Dr. Ferrucci emphasizes that mathematics is a hands-on, investigative subject, with a meaningful connection to reality.

The award is based on excellence in teaching, encouragement of independent thinking, rapport with students, and effective student advising. Recipients must be full-time, tenure-track faculty who have taught at Keene State College for at least three years.
