spacer spacer Keene State's Week-Long MLK Celebration

KEENE, N.H. 1/20/10 - Keene State College will honor Martin Luther King Jr. with a week-long "Celebration Past, Present, and Future of Civil Rights in the United States" January 25 through 28.

Joseph Sebarenzi, author of God Sleeps in Rwanda: A Journey of Transformation, will deliver the keynote address on Monday, January 25, at 7 p.m., in the Mabel Brown Room on the second floor of the Lloyd P. Young Student Center on campus.

Other events during the week:

Tuesday, January 26:
7 p.m. Student Panel Discussion on Civil Rights with Wanda Mitchell, vice provost and chief diversity officer for The University of New Hampshire, Student Center, Mabel Brown Room (second floor).

Wednesday, January 27:
10 a.m. Diversity Dialogue: Reproductive Rights as a Civil Rights Issue, facilitated by Liz Pacilio, Student Center, Madison Lounge (first floor).

Noon: Diversity Dialogue: Civil Rights in the Americas, facilitated by Dr. Mike Antonucci, assistant professor of English and American Studies, and Dr. Sally Joyce, professor of English Student Center, Mountain View Room (third floor).

7:30 p.m. Film Here Am I, Send Me: The Journey of Jonathan Daniels, produced by Dr. Larry Benaquist, professor of Film, and William Sullivan, Student Center, Mabel Brown Room (second floor).

Thursday, January 28:
Noon: Follow up discussion: Here Am I, Send Me: The Journey of Jonathan Daniels, facilitated by Dr. Larry Benaquist, professor of Film, Student Center, Madison Lounge (first floor).

7 p.m. MLK Celebration Week Concluding Event, Student Center Night Owl Café (second floor). Introduction by Dr. Helen Giles-Gee, president of Keene State College.

A Night of Music Featuring Evelyn Harris (formerly of Sweet Honey in the Rock), Martin Luther King Jr. Recognition Awards.
