Michael Cullinane, Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Mike did both his undergraduate and graduate work at the University of New
Hampshire. His area of specialization is general topology, with an emphasis
on distance functions and neigborhood structures. In his spare time he
enjoys reading, music (especially classical music), and basketball.
Vincent Ferlini, Associate Professor of Mathematics
Vince received his B.S. in Mathematics from Notre Dame, his M.S. in
Mathematics from Oregon and his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Michigan. His
research interests lie mainly in Combinatorial Group Theory. Prior to his
arrival at KSC in 1992, he was a visiting professor at Union College and
before that, taught high school in Connecticut and with the Peace Corps in
Africa. When not engaged in mathematics, he can usually be found jogging,
hiking, bicycling or at the movies.
Beverly Ferrucci, Professor of Mathematics
Dr. Ferrucci has two doctorates: the first, in mathematics
education from Boston University and the second, in psychometrics from
Boston College. She has been a districtwide K-12 mathematics and computer
coordinator, a high school mathematics department chairperson, and a middle
school mathematics teacher. She is a specialist in international
mathematics education and has lectured and researched in more than 30
countries. In addition, she is involved in numerous international,
national, and New England mathematics education projects.
Richard Jardine, Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Dick earned his BS at the United States Military Academy and M.S.
and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He
also has masters degrees in management and education. He enjoys making
connections between mathematics and other disciplines, and he has a great
interest in the use of the history of mathematics to enhance the learning of
mathematics by undergraduates. In his spare time, Dick trains for the
Boston Marathon and struggles to learn to play the guitar. He, his wife
Cary, and their two sons, Adam 14 and Matt 11, are thrilled to be enjoying
all that Keene has to offer.
Ockle Johnson, Associate Professor of Mathematics
Ockle received his B.S. in Physics from Siena College, his M.A. in
Mathematics from the University of Georgia and his Ph.D from Brown
University. He also has an M.A. in Theology. His favorite areas of
mathematics are geometry and topology. Away from KSC, he and his wife
Chris focus their energies on Maribeth 8 and Carolynn 6. Before children
arrived, he enjoyed basketball, tennis, hiking, camping and exploring new
places. Now that his kids are getting older, he's getting back to more of
them.
Eileen Phillips, Coordinator of the Math Center
Eileen received her B.A. in Mathematics from Utica College of Syracuse
University and her M.S. in Secondary Mathematics Education from SUNY
Potsdam. Prior to her arrival to KSC in January of 1999, she was an
Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Jefferson Community College in
Watertown, New York for six years. She was also the Math Specialist at
SUNY Morrisville for one year and taught 7th and 8th grade mathematics
after receiving her Master's degree. Her area of interest is in
developmental mathematics, helping students be less fearful of mathematics
and using innovative approaches to help them understand the material.
Eileen and her husband, Brian, spend much of their time playing with their
son, Austin, and remodeling their house.
Anne Raymond, Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Anne received her B.S. in mathematics from Bellamine College in
Louisville, Kentucky, her M.S. in mathematics from the University of North
Carolina and her Ph.D in mathematics education from Indiana University.
She has served as a mathematics resource teacher in grades K-8. Prior to
her appointment at KSC in 1996, she spent three years as an assistant
professor in the school of Education at Indiana University. Her research
interests include teachers beliefs about mathematics, teacher development,
and collaborative research. Outside of work, Anne and her husband, Frank,
spend most of their time chasing after their three young children,
Benjamin, Katie Christopher and their dog, Sunshine. In her spare time (ha
ha!) Anne enjoys gardening and swimming.
Sandy Rhoades, Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Sandy received her B.S. from Clarkson University, her M.S. from the
University of Vermont and her Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts.
She also received an M.Ed. in counseling from St. Lawrence University. She
taught at Smith College for three years before coming to KSC. Sandy enjoys
creating and using inventive methods to draw people into doing and
understanding mathematics. Her own explorations are focused in finite group
theory and related areas of a visual nature. Her outside interests include
juggling, swimming, reading and contradancing.
Joseph Witkowski, Professor of Mathematics
Joe received his B.S. in Mathematics from Lowell Technological
Institute, his M.S. in Mathematics from Idaho State University, and his
Doctor of Arts in Mathematics from Illinois State University. His
interests include applied mathematics, the history of mathematics, and
teaching innovations that make mathematics at all levels more interesting
and accessible to undergraduate students. Joe has taught previously at
Concord College, the University of Georgia, and Berkshire Community
College. His outside interests include spending time with his family,
hiking, swimming, music, and baseball.
