Keene High Students Shadow on Campus

From Betsy Street, Monadnock Center for Successful Transitions:

Eight students from Keene High School, North Campus, came to Keene State on May 24 for a morning of job shadows, hosted by the Monadnock Center for Successful Transitions (MCST).

Students spent almost two hours one-on-one or in very small groups with Keene State employees, following them around, seeing what they do, discussing jobs in that field, what you need to be successful, what’s fun, what’s hard. Each student chose an area in which they had an interest. This is the eighth year MCST has coordinated job shadows for North Campus students, and some of our KSC hosts have been with the program since the inception. We’d like to thank the following who hosted students this year: Automotive – Mike Fuller; Grounds - Joe Britton; Campus Safety - Mike Gomez and Amanda Guthorn; Sodexo – Sue Daniels. In addition, we had eager hosts from the Electricians and the Library whose students were absent that day. Hosts gathered with their students in the Rhodes Lobby for bagels and juice, then fanned out over the campus.

Betsy Street with the Monadnock Center for Successful Transitions (MCST), located in the School of Professional and Graduate Studies, and Ken Susskind, KHS North Campus School Counselor, worked together to organize the morning. It is always a great morning and reminds us adults about the importance and satisfaction of introducing youth to a world of work where people are enthusiastic about their jobs.
