KSC Event Scheduling Manager William Howell presented on two topics at the 2015 CollegeNet Users Conference in Portland, OR, held July 12-15. The annual conference, attended by 500 individuals from across the globe, is a blend of workshops, presentations, roundtable discussions and networking opportunities revolving around the software developed by CollegeNet which includes 25Live, the Event Management and Academic Scheduling Software utilized at KSC.

In June, Mark C. Long, professor of English and American Studies, traveled to the University of Idaho in Moscow for the eleventh biennial conference of the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE). As Immediate Past President of ASLE, Mark assisted with planning, events, and the program for over 850 attendees from thirty countries: he organized the author’s reception; publicly recognized Janisse Ray, Robin Kimmerer, and Kathleen Dean Moore as honorary members of ASLE; introduced and moderated a plenary poetry reading and discussion; organized over a dozen professional mentoring meetings; and presented on a graduate student and early career special session he helped to organize, “The Environmental Humanities Beyond the Tenure Track.” In addition, Mark co-facilitated the conference workshop, “Staying Alive: A Workshop for Academic Citizens and Elders,” with educational and literary consultant John Tallmadge.

Chris Burke, Director of the Center for Health and Wellness, has received a letter of commendation from the president of the New England College Health Association (NECHA), praising her work on behalf of the Association and thanking her for her dedication to raising the level of awareness and the quality of college health in the region. Dr. Mark Reed, President of NECHA, commended Chris for her positive attitude, her ability to accomplish results, and her success in dealing with challenges. He also noted that, because of her positive approach, Chris is fun to work with. Through her work with NECHA, Chris was a member of the board from 2005-09 and currently serves on the Program Planning Committee, where she has taken a lead role in organizing the annual conference. The letter also notes Chris’s role as a mentor to many in the organization.
