Jasinski Hits 600

Professor Jerry Jasinski (Chemistry) has reached another milestone in his long academic career at Keene State. In collaboration with many regional, national and international colleagues, he has now co-authored over 600 research papers in major refereed scientific journals related to his work focused on the X-ray crystallography and structure of biologically and pharmaceutically significant molecules.

In conjunction with the recent acquisition of a new state-of-the-art CCD single crystal X-ray diffractometer system from a National Science Foundation grant, he has extended his research activities to directly include KSC undergraduate students as well as faculty and students from several New England Colleges (Dartmouth, Middlebury, Williams, St. Anselm’s, Clark, UMASS-Boston, UMSS-Dartmouth, Fairfield, University of New Hampshire), regionally (Howard and Catholic Universities) and with significant collaborations globally. These include faculty and students from India (Universities of Banaras Hindu, Bharathidasan, Lovely Professional, Government Arts College for Women, Mysore, Mangalore, IIT-Deli, IIT-Bombay, Guru Nanak Dev, Jain, JIWAJI- Gwailor, Manipur, Punjab-Chandigarh, U.B.D.T. College of Engineering), Iran (Mashhad), Pakistan (Allama Iqbql Open University), Senegal (Faculate des Sciences et Techniques), South Africa (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University), Turkey (Earciyes), Venezuela (Universidad Simon Bolivar) and the West Indies (Cave Hill). His Fulbright-Nehru scholarship to India during the Fall 2013 semester significantly increased his international exposure and productivity.

In this venue, KSC undergraduates become directly involved as collaborators and enhance their professional exposure by allowing them to share data, computational tools and ideas related to projects of synthetic, biological and pharmaceutical interest. They advance communication skills by becoming directly involved in these projects and become co-authors on major research papers. These opportunities pave the way toward selective entrance into quality graduate schools or positions in science related industry or as science teachers in a most competitive world. Over the past 30 years KSC undergraduates have co-authored nearly 200 of these papers. Over the past six years Professor Jasinski has co-authored 40-60 papers a year.
