YEA! —a $100 Tuition Discount for KSC Children and Grandchildren

Here’s some good news: Children and grandchildren of Keene State faculty, staff, and alumni are eligible for a $100 tuition discount for the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!). This ground-breaking national program, held in NH on Keene State’s campus, teaches middle and high school students (grades 6 through 12) how to start and run their own business or social enterprise. The students begin by brainstorming ideas, and then they decide on the structure of their entity. They may work as sole proprietors, in partnerships, or in small groups of up to four students. Students do not need to have an existing idea in order to apply or gain admittance to the program.

Over the course of the 29-week program, students work with mentors to write and fine-tune business plans, prepare and then pitch those plans to a panel of investors for real funding, and participate in a trade show. In addition, the class visits local companies and hears from expert guest speakers, and the students actually register their business or non-profit with the Secretary of State. The training covers topics from accounting and insurance to e-commerce and sales. The 15 young CEOs who graduated from Keene State’s inaugural program launched nine businesses.

The YEA! program encourages students to dream BIG and develop the confidence and understanding to start a business—skills that are transferable to any field. Academy classes run from November through May and meet every Thursday from 4:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m., on the KSC campus. No prior business experience is required!
