Ireland:
National University of Ireland, Galway

  • Description

The Department of Theater and Dance is the primary KSC Academic Department to have an exchange agreement with the Theater Department of the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway) but this study away program is open to all qualified KSC students. NUI Galway welcomes over 500 international visiting students each year. Visiting students are fully integrated into the regular university courses. Among the subject areas available for study are Accounting, Archeology, Celtic civilization, Chemistry, Classics, Economics, English, Geography, German, History, Information Systems, Irish Studies, Italian, Legal Science, Life Sciences, Management, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, Sociology and Political Studies, Spanish, Theater and Performance, and Women's Studies.

For KSC Theater and Dance majors/minors and KSC students interested in Theater, KSC exchange students to NUI Galway during the Spring term will have the opportunity to be involved in a production off-campus, being part of the vibrant cultural life of Galway, which hosts the annual Galway Arts Festival.

A semester long, for-credit Service Learning module "Service Learning – Literacy Project for Study Abroad Students," which teaches students about literacy, reading awareness and reading strategies and involves working on a one-to-one basis with elementary and high school students in homework clubs in Galway, is open to interested study away students. Visiting students who do not get the opportunity to participate in this course can volunteer their services through ther University's ALIVE program (A Learning Initiative and the Volunteering Experience).
