Study Away Photo Contest
Spring 2010
Every semester GEO sponsors a photo contest open to all KSC students who have studied away on a semester or summer program under GEO auspices. Cash prizes of $50 are awarded to the category winners and a $100 cash prize goes to the grand-prize winner.
Photos are displayed and voted on in the Lloyd P. Young Student Center first floor. Voting is open to anyone with or without KSC affiliation and lasts for a week before the votes are tallied and posted. After the contest the photos are placed in a long term display case on the Student Center third floor.
These are the winning photographs from our spring 2010 GEO photo contest. Enjoy them!
Scenery & Landscape
"The Lost City" – Caitlyn Abbot
Caitlyn Abbot studied through ProWorld in Cusco, Peru. The lost city of the Incas is accessible today through the ancient Inca trail or train from Aguas Calientes.
KSC Students Away winner
"Handstands Around the World" – Kelly Redes
Kelli Redes studied at the University of Otago, New Zealand. This photo was taken at Tunnel Beach, Dunedin, New Zealand. On the edge of a cliff in Dunedin where the University of Otago is, on a beautiful spring day in October, I show my balancing act, which somehow distorts the true size of the backdrop.
Culture
"Human Towers" – Anna Kelly
Anna Kelly studied through CIS in Barcelona, Spain. Castells, a Catalan word meaning castles, is an outstanding traditional competition held in Barcelona. Castellers, proud Barcelona natives, stack one on top of the other in celebration of the Catalan festival, La Merce.
Academics, Field Trips, or Service Learning
"Colorful and Feisty – "Katherine Marshall
Katherine Marshall studied at USFQ GAIAS, Galapagos Islands. This photo was taken in James Bay, Galapagos Islands. These incredibly colorful crabs scurried away so fast; it took many attempts to get a close-up like this.
