What is RSS?
RSS (Rich Site Summary or Real Simple Syndication) is a method for delivering regularly updated web content to you the moment the new content is published.
How does it work?
Using a piece of free software called an RSS Aggregator or RSS Feed Reader, you can subscribe to content from the sites of your choice with one click of the mouse. There is a wide variety of RSS readers available, including Bloglines, Google Reader, Shrook for the Mac and many more. Also, the Firefox and Safari web browsers now have their own built-in RSS link aggregators.
Ok, but I'm still a little confused.
A site we love to use to learn about new technology is Common Craft. Here is their video about RSS. It's called RSS in Plain English. Take a look!
