New Leadership at Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing (RCAM)
Feb. 22, 2011 Keene, New Hampshire: The Regional Center for Advanced Manufacturing at Keene State College (RCAM), one of the Monadnock Region’s engines of the new economy, today announced the appointment of Norm Fisk (PE) as Executive Director. The appointment was made after a comprehensive search and marks an important step forward for the Center.
Launched in February 2010, RCAM is a dynamic partnership between Keene State College, the Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce, the Keene School District and River Valley Community College. The Center’s mission is to link business and education resources to establish and support a supply-chain of highly trained professionals for a new generation of precision manufacturing jobs.
Mr. Fisk has more than twenty years’ experience in a wide array of manufacturing and engineering enterprises throughout New England. He has also taught at Keene State College for more than fifteen years as an adjunct instructor. This combination of academic and industry experience fit the profile, needs and direction of RCAM perfectly.
The Monadnock Region is home to more than seventy high-tech manufacturing companies. But firms throughout the state report that it is increasingly difficult to recruit skilled New Hampshire employees. RCAM offers educational and training opportunities for both new students, and experienced and transitioning workers. By providing access to essential technological equipment and laboratories, the program encourages skill development and lifelong learning while supporting real-time and real-world experience in the emerging manufacturing sector.
Commenting on his appointment to the Executive Director position Mr. Fisk said, “I’m so pleased to take on this role at this time. As we all know this is a challenging stretch for many New Hampshire’ites. The Center’s educational partners, working with area businesses, link curricula to provide connected educational pathways that intertwine with the needs of the local business community. These “linked” levels of education include: high school preparatory courses; corporate-sponsored professional development classes; and two- and four-year degree programs that allow students and workers opportunities to continue to advance their education without loss of credit and advance in their careers.
