KSC Faculty and Guest Recital Features Tri-State Trio
KEENE, N.H., 09/10/09 - The Keene State College Music Department presents a recital by the Tri-State Trio Friday, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Recital Hall of the Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth ages 17 and under. For tickets, call the box office at 603-358-2168. Lively songs and romantic chamber music for tenor, French horn, and piano will be performed featuring songs for and about the horn by early American and European composers; Italian, French, and German chamber works; Franz Schubert's "Auf Dem Strom"; and Benjamin Britten's thoughtful "Canticle III: Still Falls the Rain (op. 55)". The recital also includes works by Berlioz, Delius, Debussy, Honneger, Lachner, Mendelssohn, Schubert, and Schumann, among others. Members of the Tri-State Trio include Thomas Gregg, tenor; Alan Parshley, French horn; and George Loring, piano. Thomas Gregg's many solo appearances in oratorio include performances with orchestras in Columbus, Ohio; Memphis, Tenn.; Lake Charles, La.; and numerous choral groups such as the Cincinnati Choral Society, the Quincy (Mass.) Choral Society, the Back Bay Chorale in Boston, Chorus Pro Musica, and the Providence Singers. His extensive professional ensemble work includes Boston appearances with the Handel and Haydn Society, Emmanuel Music, Boston Baroque, the Trinity Choir, and the Boston Secession. He currently teaches at the Boston Conservatory and Tufts University. Alan Parshley has been affiliated with the University of Vermont Music Department since 1983. He is a member of the Albany (N.Y.) and Vermont Symphony Orchestras, has served as principal horn of the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with Springfield, Mass., and Portland, Maine, symphonies. As a member of Fanfare, the VSO Brass Trio, he has introduced brass instruments to thousands of elementary school students throughout Vermont and performed with Phish at their 1996 Halloween concert in Chicago. George Loring, an artist-in-residence at Keene State, performs frequently throughout New England as a soloist, collaborative artist, and chamber musician and has performed in Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, and Hawaii. Loring has performed with the Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra, the New Hampshire Philharmonic, and the Jupiter Symphony of New York City, and he has appeared as pianist for the Monadnock Chorus at Carnegie Hall.
