"Emerging Art" Showcases KSC Art Majors' Work
This painting by KSC student Jessica Becker will be
among the work in “Emerging Art”
KEENE, N.H. 4/01/08 - Works by 19 graduating art majors will be showcased in "Emerging Art," the annual Keene State College art students' exhibition, presented by the KSC Department of Art from Saturday, April 19, through Sunday, May 11, at the Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery.

Friends of the Thorne will host an opening reception for "Emerging Art" on Friday, April 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the gallery.

In conjunction with "Emerging Art," the Art Department will sponsor a Graphic Design Senior Portfolio Review on the same day as the exhibit's opening reception, Friday, April 18, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Media Arts Center on the KSC campus. Representatives from local businesses and the public are invited to review the portfolios of graphic design seniors and attend the opening reception at the gallery.

Bachelor of fine arts candidates, seniors, and other students majoring in art will exhibit their paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, and ceramics. The pieces were selected by art department faculty from work students completed in all levels of art classes throughout the academic year.

One gallery will feature artwork by seven bachelor of fine arts students graduating in May: Jessica Becker of Derry, N.H.; Heather Bowman of Hollis, N.H.; Holly Bradford of Peterborough, N.H.; Faith Burgos of Gorham, Maine; Vanessa Green of North Grosvenordale, Conn.; Timothy LaRosee of Sterling, Mass.; and Jacquelyn Topper of Londonderry, N.H. The BFA program is a highly selective program in the visual arts that requires seniors to exhibit a body of their work.

Twelve other students expecting to receive bachelor of arts degrees will have their artwork featured in the second gallery along with other students' works. These graduating seniors are: Lydia Burleigh of Greenfield, N.H.; Susan Christiansen of Keene, N.H.; Meridith Cianti of East Northport, N.Y.; Ryan Goldstein of Fairfield, Conn.; Christopher Norton of Franklin, Mass.; Lydia Parison of New Ipswich, N.H.; Analesa Perkins of Fairfield, Conn.; Anna Perkins of Keene, N.H.; Kim Petersen of Simsbury, Conn.; Jamie Tilton of Epsom, N.H.; Jessica Stedman of Westbrook, Conn.; and Elizabeth Winter of Bristol, Conn.

These students have been preparing their artwork for exhibit during a Senior Seminar course taught by Peter Roos, associate professor of art.

Gallery visitors are invited to vote for their favorite artwork for the People's Choice Commendation, which carries a $100 cash prize and is sponsored by the Friends of the Thorne. The winner will be announced on Monday, May 5.

The exhibit, reception, and portfolio review are free and open to the public. The gallery is open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday through Wednesday, and noon to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday. It will be open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, and Sunday, May 11, for Keene State College commencement.

The gallery is accessible to people with disabilities. To request accommodations for a disability, please call the gallery at least two weeks before your visit. For information, call 603-358-2720 or visit www.keene.edu/tsag.
