Wildflower Trio and World Premieres at Keene State Recital

KEENE, N.H., 10/23/06 - The Monadnock Trio and a world premiere will be among the highlights of the Keene State College Faculty Artists’ Recital on Wed., Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Recital Hall of the Redfern Arts Center on Brickyard Pond. Tickets are $7 for the general public and $5 for KSC students, senior citizens, and youth age 17 or younger. Call the box office at 603-358-2168.

The Monadnock Trio (Joy Flemming, bassoon; Sussan Henkel, oboe; and George Loring, piano) will perform pieces by Nielsen and Rachmaninoff as well as “The Wildflower Trio,” written by contemporary composer Jenni Brandon in honor of the life and environmental work of Lady Bird Johnson.

The world premiere of six works by Professor Emeritus William Pardus will be performed by Diane Cushing, soprano, and George Loring, piano. Pardus is the former chairman of the Keene State Department of Music, where he taught arranging, American music, jazz history, and theory, and directed the KSC Electronic Music Studio.

Kathy Andrew (violin) and Maura Glennon (piano) will also perform.

Joy Flemming is a founding member of Festival Chamber Music and a principal bassoonist with the Keene Chamber Orchestra and Raylynmor Opera Orchestra. She has performed with the Granite State Orchestra, Opera North, the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, and the Keene State Orchestra.

Sussan Henkel has been a member of the Keene State College faculty for more than 15 years and performs regularly with the Keene Chamber Orchestra, Worcester Orchestra, Raylynmor Opera Company, Fireside Winds, Keene Chorale Orchestra, Monadnock Chorus Orchestra, and other New England musical groups.

George Loring, pianist, is an Artist-in-Residence at Keene State’s Department of Music, where he teaches piano performance, accompanying, piano pedagogy, class piano, piano ensemble, and music theory, and he also fulfills extensive accompaniment duties.

Diane Cushing presently teaches voice and conducts the Keene State College Choir as the music director of Keene State’s production of Urinetown in 2005. She is the founder and director of The Greater Gardner Youth Choir and The Mount Wachusett Community Choir of Gardner.

Kathy Andrew, violinist, is an active freelance violinist and instructor in Brattleboro, Vermont. She teaches at Keene State College, The Putney School, and the Brattleboro Music Center, where she also conducts the Music School’s Senior Orchestra.

Maura Glennon is an associate professor of music at Keene State College, where she has taught applied piano, keyboard literature, piano ensemble, accompanying, opera workshop, and chamber music since 1998. Recent performances include a piano trio recital with Kathy Andrew and Judith Serkin at Keene State College and a cello and piano recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
